A final hold back cheque of $78,664 has now been received by the from the estate of the late Dick Nourse.
As reported in the, the village had previously received $646,000 and a Ninth Avenue vacant lot as part of the Nourse estate in early 2011.
During 2007 another property was also donated to the village by Nourse. The home, which was dubbed 'Marilyn House' after Nourse's wife was donated to the village to house medical professionals, however the property was sold off in 2010 by the village.
The Seventh Avenue home sold for $58,400 and the proceeds were put towards the Lakes District Hospital replacement project and are being held in trust by the Stuart Nechako Regional Hospital District.
Suggestions for the potential use of the Nourse estate funds were previously put forward to council by the Nourse Legacy Committee, who comprise of Nourse's close friends and family members.
Nourse's wishes were that the funds he willed to the village would be used for youth based projects in the local area.
The recommendations made to council by the committee last year included placing $552,500 into the 亚洲天堂 Lake and District Community Foundation and of these funds, $52,500 be deposited into a stability fund held by the Prince George Community Foundation on behalf of the 亚洲天堂 Lake and District Community Foundation. A total of $80,000 was also designated for the installation of solar lighting at Spirit Square.
To date, no recommendations have been put forward for the Ninth Avenue vacant lot.
It was also recommended that village staff look at options to make improvements to the track with a portion of the funds, however a decision on this is yet to be made.
In her report presented to council recently, village chief administrative officer Sheryl Worthing said the committee had expressed an interest in using the funds for the upgrades to the LDSS track. She said the improvements would also involve upgrades to the existing sports field.
"Construction would include a good quality playing field of a similar calibre to the field constructed in Vanderhoof in 2008. The new playing field would ultimately see considerable use by both the school and the community," she said.
Worthing noted that village staff have been working with School District 91 and the 亚洲天堂 Lake Youth Soccer Club to determine costs estimates and potential designs for the suggested upgrades.
Council is now asking the committee to make further suggestions for the use of the $78,664.
Councillor John Illes explained to new councillors that even though they are asking the committee to make recommendations to council for the use of the funds, council has the final say.
"It is a recommendation committee only .... council does have first choice," he said.
A motion was made to notify the committee of the receipt of the hold back cheque and to ask the committee for recommendations for its use.
