Officials are continuing their concurrent investigations into the serious rollover crash that claimed a life of a woman in her 70s and sent four others to hospitals with some having life threatening injuries.
The multi-vehicle collision happened July 17, just after 8:30 a.m., along the southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway 5, south of the Portia brake check.
鈥淔irst responders arrived on scene to find a heavily damaged grey Mazda CX-9 on its side,鈥 said Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey, spokesman for the BC RCMP. 鈥淭wo adults and two children sustained varying degrees of injuries, all serious and many considered to be potentially life threatening in nature.鈥
Both adults were air-lifted to Lower Mainland hospitals. At last update, both the man and woman were in emergency surgery.
One of the two children was taken to BC Children鈥檚 Hospital in critical condition, while the other was taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life threatening bodily injuries.
No further information is expected to be released by officials.
For the morning, both directions of the Coquihalla were closed and later in the day northbound lanes were opened, but south remained closed for most of the day.
Witnesses or those with dash camera footage are asked to contact the BC Highway Patrol Chilliwack at 604-702-4039.
