Prince George drug task force seizes GHB

Charges are pending against two people and against two other adult male residents of the city.

Just before midnight on Feb. 17, 2012, members of the Prince George RCMP's drug section executed a search warrant on a residence on Alward Street in Prince George.

Upon searching the residence, investigators located one litre of GHB (Gamma-hydroxybutyrate), an illegal substance as set out in the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

A small quantity of cocaine and drug trafficking paraphernalia was also located.

Two arrests were made at the residence. A male and a female, both in their 30's, both residents of Prince George and both associated to organized crime groups.

Charges are pending against these two people and against two other adult male residents of the city.

GHB is a Central Nervous System depressant, often referred to as a "date rape" drug.

Low doses can cause amnesia, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, lowered inhibitions or impaired judgment and higher doses can lead to respiratory depression, slowed heart rate, seizure-like activity, loss of consciousness and coma.

Although the Prince George RCMP have not received any increase in reports of sexual assault, they would like to remind the public to be cautious when attending social events: never accept an open beverage from someone you don't know; never leave your beverage unattended and never leave friends alone with people you don't trust.

Should you suspect that you were drugged, attend the nearest hospital as soon as possible.

If you have any information about drug activity contact CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
