The Board of Directors for the Regional District of Bulkley Nechako passed a recommendation that would expand the area of exploration for the Nithi Mountain Wind Project on Thursday, May 23.
The current license for exploration held by the Stellat鈥檈n First Nation covers 2,430 hectares of land. The expansion area will add 2,180 hectares, almost doubling the size of the licence for 5 to 10 years.
The addition to the licence will allow time to investigate the suitability of construction routes for transmission lines that would connect the Nithi Mountain Wind Project to the electrical grid.
The recommendation does not authorize the development of a wind farm project or transmission lines. RDBN staff anticipates that an environmental assessment certificate would be required for the project to investigate the potential impact.
