Police seek to identify person of interest

A camera was installed in the changing room at the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre, and police are asking for the public's help to try to find a person of interest in the case.
Police issued a press release Monday, March 31, to try to revitalize an investigation into an incident from early in the month. On March 3, staff at the pool notified police that a camera had been found installed in a changing room door, and two men were seen on the video. One of the men 鈥� considered a victim, not a suspect 鈥� has been identified, but the other hasn't.
RCMP say the images were captured Jan. 18 and say that there were no images of children on the video. Police say they do not believe any images were transmitted from the camera to any external devices.
"Investigators are asking the public for their assistance in identifying the second adult man as they believe he has information that may further this investigation," said reserve Const. Gary O鈥橞rien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesperson.
The City of Nanaimo stated that it won't be commenting on the specifics of the investigation, but Dale Lindsay, the city's chief administrative officer, called the incident "disturbing" in an e-mailed statement.
"The city takes the privacy and safety of all visitors to our facilities very seriously. Rest assured, we have systems and measures in place to ensure safety for all users," he said.
He encouraged people to remain vigilant and immediately report any concerns or suspicions at civic facilities to staff members.
"We understand that this news may be unsettling, and we want to reassure the community that we are treating this matter with the utmost urgency and care. The safety and privacy of our patrons remain our highest priority," Lindsay said.
