At approximately 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 15, 2011 the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake RCMP detachment received a report of a suicidal female with a firearm in her rental home across from Uptown Auto.
Police from both ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake and Fraser Lake detachments attended the scene and residents in the neighbourhood were evacuated as a safety precaution.
RCMP say Hwy. 16 was also shut down to ensure public safety.
Soon after, the adult female surrendered to officers without incident.
The female was examined by the BC Ambulance Service at the scene and was then transported to the Lakes District Hospital for further examination.
She was subsequently transported to the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake RCMP Detachment and released from custody to appear in Provincial Court at a later date.
RCMP say alcohol was a factor in the incident.
Following a search of the residence firearms, ammunition and other prohibited weapons were seized.
ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake RCMP continue to investigate the matter.
