Surrounded by the love of her family, Barbara Aleita Brown passed peacefully on March 17, 2017, at the age of 78.
She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 55 years, Jack; sons Russell (Heidi), Nello and Greg; grandchildren Chenoa, Keona, Gavin and Cameron; sister Patti (David) Parker; and nieces Sarah (Guy) Rogers and Catherine (Aaron) LeBlanc. She was predeceased by her parents Nello and Eileen Satti, and by her brother Bob Satti.
Barbara was raised in the East Hastings neighbourhood of Vancouver, graduating from Britannia High School in 1956. She studied nursing at Vancouver General Hospital, then business, and taught bookkeeping at Duffis Business College in Vancouver, where she met Jack. After they married in Vancouver in 1962, Barbara joined Jack in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, living first at Blue Spruce, then in the house they built on 1st Avenue. Three sons soon filled the home, and Barbara settled into her busy life of raising the boys and supporting Jack in his business and community service activities. For 30 years she was the treasurer of the Anglican Mission to the Lakes District, and she served with Jack on the board of the Senior Citizens’ Housing Society. In the late 1970s, she returned to work as bookkeeper at the family hardware store. Her happiest days were spent with her family at the cabin at Babine Lake. Barbara never wavered in her devotion to her family. Her life with Jack was a true partnership, and in her later years she also became an important figure in the daily lives of her granddaughters. Her last few years were quiet, but happy. She maintained a positive disposition and continued to see the funny side of life.
We are grateful for her example of selfless love, which will sustain us for years to come. We also thank Dr. Annandale and the staff at Lakes District Hospital for the excellent care Barbara received.
