David Errol Smith, passed away peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta on January 17, 2007 after a lengthy illness.
Born May 16, 1936 in Montreal, Quebec he grew up in Westmount and spent his summers at Lake McDonald at the family cottage. He joined Liquid Air in 1959, working first in the Montreal office and then transferring to Edmonton with Liquid Air in 1976.
Moving to the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake area with wife Sylvia in 1979 to raise their young family was a good decision. Dave was hired on by the Ministry of Highways within two weeks of settling ‘down Uncha’ and stayed with the agency until privitizing to Lakes District Maintenance in 1989, and then finally retiring.
Dave enjoyed horseback riding, hiking, cross country skiing, camping and watching all the wildlife that came past his front door ‘at the farm’. He had a great sense of humor, love of nature and many different interests throughout his life.
He will be dearly missed by wife Sylvia Smith (nee Moore), daughter Holly Delitzoy (nee Smith) and husband Gene; daughter Tracy Sparks (nee Smith) and husband Ryan, and first grandson Stirling Errol Sparks, and brother Allen Smith.
A memorial service will be held at the Smith family plot on Dave’s birthday May 16th, at the Mount Royal Sumatra in Montreal.
Memorials may be made to the Heart Foundation.
Is it so small a thing
To have enjoy’d the sun,
To have lived light in the spring,
To have loved, to have thought, to have done. . .
