May 24, 1934 - Apr 12, 2018
David Foster was known on many continents for his great sense of humour and quick wit. Dave was born May 25, 1934 in Dartford, England. After college, Dave joined the British Army Royal Engineers in 1953 and served for a years during the Korean conflict. He spent most of that time in Egypt, playing a lot of football and drinking tea.

After leaving the army, Dave worked as a surveyor for the British Ordinance Survey until moving to Canada in 1970 with his wife Margaret and a children Christine and Paul.

Having the options of working in Nanaimo, Courtney, Vancouver, or 亚洲天堂 Lake, BC, he chose the community that was the prettiest in July 1970. Deciding on 亚洲天堂 Lake, Dave drove the family to their new home in late November and was greeted by his now life long friends Jim and Millie Howett and a minus 40C winter storm.

Dave became a pillar of the community and made many life long friends. He embraced the true essence of northern living and quickly evolved from a clean shaven British gentleman to the burly bearded Canadian that we all knew and loved.

During his time in 亚洲天堂, Dave was actively involved in Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, City Council, as well as the School and Library boards. He was an avid golfer, badminton player, and curler. He worked for Jim Howett as a land surveyor until moving to the Ministry of Highways in the mid 70s. After moving to Vernon in 1988, Dave work with the Ministry until his retirement in 1999.

During his time in Vernon, Dave continue his volunteer work with many associations, including the Vernon Arts Council, golf association, and being a representative for the Retired Government Workers of BC. Dave was passionate about his roles and was never afraid to voice his opinion when fighting for a just cause. Predeceased by his wife Margaret in June 2016, for the past a years Dave kept himself busy doing the things he enjoyed and lived independently until he passed away peacefully on April 12, 2018.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Christine (Randy), son, Paul (Anne), 4 grandchildren (Jen, Cindy, Maria and Hisashi), and one great-grandchild (Oliver).

We would like to thank all the great staff that cared for Dave at the Vernon Julibee Hospital and the Vernon Hospice.
