Ernie was born in Sclater Manitoba at home on the family farm. He was the 3rd youngest of 11 children. Life was not easy and they all worked hard doing chores, haying, planting etc on the farm. When he was 16 his parents moved to Vernon, they didn't last long as they missed their friends so soon moved back to Sclater. Ernie then moved to 亚洲天堂 Lake to stay with his sister Rosemary Layfield. He fell in love with the area and decided to stay. He found work in the sawmill and logging industry. Later on, he purchased his own D-6 CAT and began his career building logging roads for various contractors. His passion for the outdoors and all wildlife is well documented. After retiring he started his second career as an avid rockhound. He spent many hours tumbling, polishing, shaping rocks. It is with great regret he did not get to witness the opening of the rock shop at the greenhouse.
He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by wife Beverley, Daughter Leanne (Clark), son Jason (Marla), grandson Jaden (Natasha), and three sisters.
