Fred was born in Duxford England in 1907. He passed away peacefully in Prince George on August 20, 2009 at the age of 101.
Fred spent his early years in England. He came to Canada in 1927 where he lived and worked on the Blackwell farm at Wistaria. In 1939 he joined the army and became an artillery gunner. He came back to Canada after the war in 1946 and purchased the Sky Ranch at Wistaria. In 1948 he married Molly Priest and they made their home on the ranch. They later built a log house down by Spicer Lake and moved there with their sons Anthony and Norman. Molly passed away in 1983 and Fred continued to live there until he moved to Prince George at the age of 98. During Fred's lifetime he worked on his farm, logged, drove school bus and was a maintenance man for the Grassy Plains school. He enjoyed fishing, dancing and playing cards with his many friends.
Fred was predeceased by his wife Molly and a brother Stanley. He is survived by his sons Anthony (Carol), Norman (Verla), granddaughters Stacey, Lisa (Darcey) and great grandson Christian. He leaves behind a stepdaughter Shirley (Wess), stepson Bob, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brother Alan (Marion), sister Milly, numerous nieces and nephews, and others who called him Grandpa.
Fred was a wonderful Father, Grandpa and Uncle to his family. He was caring and considerate and loved by everyone who knew him. His sense of humour and positive attitude touched many lives and we will miss him.
The family extends many thanks to the people who helped make Fred's last years at home easier. Your visits and help were much appreciated.
