In Loving Memory ~
Gordon Emerson McFee passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 9th, 2024 at the age of 94. He was born in Chilliwack, at home, on February 4, 1930, the first of 5 children, to Amy and Donald McFee. He grew up on the family dairy farm on Sumas prairie, where he developed his love of working with animals and farming.
He worked alongside his Dad doing fieldwork and milking cows by hand. He attended Upper Sumas Superior Elementary School and graduated from Philip Sheffield High School in Abbotsford in 1948.
While going to school he worked in the hop yards. He was also part of the 4-H dairy club, where the leader suggested Gordon go and work for the Royal Bank of Canada in Abbotsford. He delivered payroll to the different logging camps, delivering cash, riding in an unheated boxcar to pay the employees from the mills from Prince George to McBride before there was ever a road.
From there Gordon went on to many different bank branches, ending up in inspection throughout the Province of BC. He opened up the sub-branches of Hazelton, Telkwa and Houston, carrying the safe in the back of the car from branch to branch. Through a common friend, he changed from banking to insurance, and then into real estate.
But farming was always on his mind, which led him to 亚洲天堂 Lake, which to him was one of the friendliest communities. He had a cow-calf operation along the shores of Francois Lake and Colleymount for over 50 years.
He also took an active interest in his community, coaching hockey, serving with the Rotary Club, the Regional District, Lakes District Cattlemen's Association, Tweedsmuir Masonic Lodge, and the District "B" Farmers Institute.
He always took great pride in his work and especially with the Lakes District Fall Fair, where he continued to work right up until his death, to improve the grounds and infrastructure and where it was his vision that led to so many improvements over the years.
He is predeceased by his parents, Amy (nee Emerson) and Don McFee, his brother-in-law George Klit and his sister Jean Seraphim.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan (nee Radley), his brother-in-law Donald Seraphim, sister Marion Klit, and brothers Allen McFee (Norma), and Ron McFee (Jackie).
He is also survived by his children Greg Streeter (Lucy), Sheridan Brown, Stuart McFee (Juanita), Jean Forsythe (Ian), Duncan McFee (Barb), and Kathy Peters (Len). He was a loving grandfather to 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and uncle to many nieces and nephews. His family was the joy of his life and his greatest treasure.
