Gordie was born in Vancouver where he enjoyed exploring on the North Shore mountains. He joined the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada on his 18th birthday. Later he transferred to the Calgary Tanks and served overseas during World War II. He was injured and captured at Dieppe and spent the remainder of the war as a POW 鈥渁nnoying the Germans at every opportunity鈥� until 1945 when he came back to Canada.

He married Marguerite in 1946. He worked as a blacksmith, prison guard, and logger, and eventually as a marine engineer for Vancouver Tug. He then worked for Atlantic Deep Sea Fishing as Engineer Superintendent. He retired in 1974 and moved to Noralee on Francois Lake where he worked on the Jakob Henkle and the Omineca Princess for 10 years, then retirement for good.

Gordie moved into 亚洲天堂 lake in 1996 where he lived until passing away after a brief illness. He was predeceased by son John in 1984.

Gordon will be missed by his wife of 59 1/4 years Marguerite and the family: son Jim (Jan), daughter-in-law Shelley (Chris), son Dave (Lori), daughter Lael and eight grandchildren: Trish, Melissa, Reine, Krista, Erik, Kraig Mowat and Gordon and Stuart McCullum. No service and no flowers by request.
