January 11, 1937 - July 1, 2020
Marie was born in Milton, Massachusetts on January 11, 1937. She married Charlie Darter in 1956 and followed him whenever possible to his postings for the US Navy. She spent time in Texas, Newfoundland and Alaska before settling at Francois Lake when Charlie retired. They bought the Keefe homestead and made it into the Misty Willow Darter Ranch. Marie & Charlie raised cattle, but later found that Marie had an interest in raising sheep which she loved.
Charlie and Marie hosted the Francois Lake Bluegrass Festival for many years. After Charlie's passing in 1994, Marie opened her home as a Bed & Breakfast and welcomed many guests into her home. She also took in boarders and many remained her good friends.
On her way to Prince George for shoulder surgery, she was introduced to Robert Whipps. Robert was immediately in love and it didn't take long for the sparks to fly. They married in the Bluegrass grounds on August 1, 2009. They travelled together to music festivals, Legion conventions and to visit family and friends.
Marie's home has always welcomed anyone for coffee, a good chat, or a delicious meal. She was known for her love of family, friends, animals and life. When she met someone new, her soul touched theirs.
She was bright, sweet and loving, which shows when she had a pet moose (Moosey) and raised orphaned fawns (John and Deere) and her infectious smile and laugh. She will be missed by all but especially her husband Robert Whipps, her children, Frank Darter, Laura Harms (Ed Vincent), her grandchildren, Raelene, Chantel, Brandon, Jessica, Danielle, Lauren, Melissa, Jennifer, Amanda, Ryan, Carmen. And also her extended family, Mike Whipps (Sylvia), Dena Whipps, and Peter Whipps.
A service will be held at a later date.
