May 13, 1923 - Dec 17, 2017
Mary was born in Southbank to Richard and Jessie Carroll, and lived in the Palling/Decker Lake area most of her life. She worked at the Royal Bank and studied at the Vancouver School of Art before marrying Garnet in 1947. She spent much of her life working in the accounting field.

Mary was well-known for debating, her favourite topics being politics and religion. Her interests included painting, drawing, photography, math, poetry, and skiing. She started a cross-country ski racing program in 1968 with four young people, and continued to coach for almost 20 years. She loved the young skiers she worked with, and had help from many volunteers (parents and Omineca Ski Club members). In 1989, "Cross Country Canada" recognized her coaching accomplishments by establishing the "Mary Anderson Award" which is presented annually at the National Championships to the winner of the women's long race. She was also a member of the L.D. Artists' Guild and the Northern Scribblers Guild.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Garnet in 1986, and her sister Jean Paulson in 2014.

She is survived by her daughter Diane, son Brian, grandson Gerald Haffner, granddaughter Jaclyn Haffner, and her many nieces and nephews.

Mary lived her last three years at the Pines Care Home where she was well cared for.
