May 7, 1935 - September 10, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mavis Doreen Johnstone (nee Cronin) on September 10th, 2019, after having fought a courageous 47 year battle with Parkinson's disease. Mavis was born on May 7th, 1935 in Powell River, BC to Joseph and Dorothy Cronin. She was predeceased by her only brother Larry Cronin. At the age of 9, Mavis entered a Catholic boarding school in Prince Rupert, BC, which she attended until she graduated. After graduation, Mavis worked in the Smithers hospital until she met and married Keith Johnstone in 1953. They raised their four children, Cheryl, Terry, Bruce, and Kelly in Houston. Mavis devoted her life to her family and community. She was president of the Houston Boosters Club, which raised enough money to build the first covered ice arena in Houston. As well, Mavis had many personal hobbies, but especially enjoyed riding and caring for her horses. Mavis and Keith retired to Enderby, BC in 2000. Mavis will be dearly missed by her family and friends. May she rest in peace.
