1929 鈥 2017 Orval was born on February 10, 1929 in Hughenden, Alberta, but lived most of his life in BC. He was the oldest of eight children born to Harold McDougal Gorley and Thelma Mae Miller. His family moved to the Bulkley Valley when Orval was a boy, and he developed a deep connection to that part of the province. He joined the BC Forest Service and spent his career in several BC communities, working and living a life that brought him much happiness and fulfillment. He met the love of his life, Lorna Grace Hudson (1926-2008) in Southbank, BC, and married her in Telkwa, BC in 1952. A son, Alan, was born in 1955 and a daughter, Lauren, completed the family in 1958. Orval was an accomplished, self-taught musician, playing a variety of instruments. He could easily be coaxed to play a tune on the piano or get the party going with his 鈥榮queeze box鈥 accordion. Orval passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, March 23 2017 in Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. Orval and Lorna left a legacy of love, laughter, and family values. They also provided a place to call 鈥榟ome away from home鈥 at Uncha Lake, where in 1965 they build a recreational cabin that has become a family gathering place and corner stone of Gorley family get-togethers. Later this year Orval will join Lorna in a little plot on the Uncha Lake property. We wipe a tear, smile, and say to Orval, Dad, Grandpa, Papa, and Great-Grandpa, 鈥淲e鈥檒l see you when we see you鈥.
