Sidney D Hayes, 96 of Ukiah Oregon died Sunday, April 5th, 2009 after a short stay in the Pendelton Hospital.
Sid was born Dec. 1, 1912 in Yelm, Washington to Mark and Josephine (Solomon)Hayes.
He served in the Army during World War II, earning the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the World War II Service Medal in the Pacific Theater.
In 1969 With his two eldest sons away fighting in Vietnam, and a daughter in her final year of high school, he moved to Francois Lake with his wife Helen and his two youngest kids. He was bound for a home in a beautiful country where things were a little less settled, and with more room for the hunting and fishing which he loved.
Through out his many years he'd worked numerous jobs. He'd worked as a blaster, a builder, he made and laid cedar shakes for many homes. He'd logged with horses, and farmed, and trapped and many, many other jobs that the oldtimers were used to doing.
Sid moved back south after his son Jubal died and his marriage ended. There he started over again.
He married Amy and continued looking for the best hunting and fishing country. After he reached his 70's he hauled firewood for "OLD FOLKS"
Sid is survived by his wife Amy Hayes of Ukiah: daughters Tammy (Les ) Palm of Quartzsite, Arizona, and Delcy (Mike)Shelford of Francois Lake, B.C.; sons Jan (Carol) Hayes of Noxon, Montana; and Tate V. Hayes of Yelm, Washington, and also his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, and one son, Jubal Sidney Hayes
His ashes will be spread at a private gathering at his favourite grouse hunting mountains on Father's Day June 21 - 2009
