REID, Stephen
Died peacefully in thepresence of his family on February 26, 2006at the age of 91.
Steve was the 8th of 14 children born to Alex and Sarah Reid in the Parish of West Calder, County Midlothian, Scotland. The Reid family moved to Canada in 1929 and eventually settled in Trail.
Steve married the love of his life Millie Shellard of Rossland on October 15, 1937. Steve and Millie would have celebrated 69 years of marriage this year. One of Steve鈥檚 favorite sayings was that 鈥淢illie received 68 years of free room and board鈥. Millie would argue that there was nothing 鈥渇ree鈥 about it.
Steve worked at Cominco for 39 years interrupted only by WWII during which he proudly served his country overseas for 5 _ years. Following Cominco, Millie and Steve moved north to Granisle to be closer to family. After their grandchildren grew up, they settled in Penticton.
Steve was a great guitar player and he and Millie loved to sing and entertain. Family gathering were filled with yodeling, harmony, lots of singing laughter, playfulness and mischief. Steve and Millie loved to have fun.
Grandpa is remembered for his music, his honour, his love of fishing, his great sense of humour and mostly for his love of family.
Steve is survived by his wife of 68 years, Millie. Son, Steve Reid (Grace), daughter, Gladys McCluskey (Charlie), Sisters, May, Margaret Grandchildren, Cliff McCluskey, Tammy McCluskey (Bob), Colleen Verigin (Leonard) Stephen Reid (Lori), Shaunene Reid (Kevin), Heather Phillips, Lori Mccluskey (Kris), Wendy McCluskey (Dave), Great Grandchildren Justin & Ryan Vanjoff, Stephanie Reid, Jaemmy Prochner, Lynden & Ashlyn Prochner, Lacey & Lindsay Reid, Daniel and Samantha Phillips, Michaela and Abbey McLean and many nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his Grandson, Rod Reid.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Steve鈥檚 name be made to your local SPCA.
The family would like to thank the nurses of the Penticton Regional Hospital and also to Dr. Tatham for their kindness and special care of Steve and our family.
Grandpa, we thank you, we love you and we hope there is a lot of porridge up in heaven.
