Susie Amendt went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2009 at her home in Danskin, BC, at the age of 83 years and 5 days.

She is survived by her loving husband, Henry Amendt. Three sons: Conrad (and his wife, Shirley) of Southbank, BC, Menno (and his wife, Phyllis) of Danskin, BC, and George of Danskin, BC. Five daughters: Olinda (and her husband John) of Danskin, BC, Judy (and her husband, James) of Salmon Arm, BC, Leona (and her husband, Gerry) of Telkwa, BC, Norma (and her husband, Millard) of McBride, BC, and Gladys (and her husband, Ryan) of Decker Lake, BC.

37 grandchildren, 26 great grand-children (all of which were very special to her).

She is also survived by 3 brothers: Isaac, John & Peter; and seven sisters: Agnes, Helen, Mary, Eva, Tina, Hilda & Marge

She was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Charlene, (wife of son, George) who entered her eternal reward in December of 2005. A great-grandson, Jeffrey Maldaner also went to be with Jesus in August of 2006. She was also predeceased by two brothers; Jake and Abe, and one sister, Anne.

Susie was born in Wymark, Saskatchewan on January 2, 1926 to Isaak & Aganetha Knelson. She moved to the Southside with her family in the spring of 1941. She married Henry Amendt on July 4, 1948. This past summer they enjoyed their 60th wedding anniversary at a family reunion held at Ootsa Lake. Throughout the years of her marriage, besides raising her family, she opened her home to many others (including boarders) always making sure everyone had plenty to eat, a good nights rest and the full benefit of her wonderful hospitality.

She was a faithful wife and took full responsibility of caring for her husband, especially in the special needs he had over the last years. Her life stood out as one of loving and sacrificial service to all who entered her doors. She rose to serve even when she seemed too tired to do so.

Her service was her love gift to all of us and everyone who went away was touched by that selflessness, that good food, that good fellowship. We remember her love for us all as a family, her arms encompassed us all. None were exempt from the reach of that love. She was a beloved Grandma to all who called her by that name. The grandchildren are all here today except one. Her love truly touched our hearts.

Even though she lived the last years of her life with the growing threat of ill health because of her failing heart, the testimony of her life stands as a beacon of light to show us the way to heaven.
