In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas David Gilgan. Tom passed away in Cranbrook on June 18, 2023, at 77 years of age.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Betty and survived by his sister Evelyn and many nieces and nephews.
Although Tom was born in Calgary, he spent the first 40+ years of his life in 亚洲天堂 Lake, BC, where in 1969, he married the love of his life, Betty. Although they did not have children themselves, they were always surrounded by their numerous nieces and nephews who loved them dearly.
Tom was instrumental in the start-up of Babine Forest Products and worked there for many years as HR Manager. He spent almost 50 years in the Forest Industry. He worked for M&B (Port Alberni), Ainsworth (100 Mile House), Springer Creek (Slocan), Weyerhaeuser OSB (Edson), Canadian Chopstick (Fort Nelson). During his career, Tom worked mainly in the HR Labour Relations side of the business.
He dealt with many people over the years and if you ever spent any time with him, he always made a lasting impression on you. And if you travelled anywhere with Tom, you would always find him chatting with someone that he hadn't seen in years. He seemed to know everyone and always remembered their names.
He always really cared about the people in his life. Tom's loved ones enjoyed his friendly company and listening to his memorable stories. He had a true gift for storytelling, a great work ethic, and a big heart. Tom's good sense of humour and generosity was appreciated by many.
In his last job, Tom delivered RV trailers for Runners RV in Cranbrook. He got to do something that he loved to do and get paid for it and that was to drive. Any excuse to jump in his vehicle and drive somewhere was okay with Tom. He loved cars and driving too fast.
Tom requested no service, but a celebration of life will be held in Cranbrook at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
