Black Creek distance runner Cam Levins returned to the sport in style on Friday, April 5, matching a Canadian record for the 10,000 metre distance.
Levins, who holds the Canadian record in the half marathon (60:18) as well as the North American record in the full marathon (2:05:36), matched the 10k Canadian record of 28:11 at the Asics Festival of Running in Paris.
The Canadian record was originally set by Kitchener, Ontario鈥檚 Ben Flanagan two years ago.
Levins finished sixth overall in Paris. Ethiopian runner Jemal Yimer won the race, posting a time of 27:43.
It was Levins鈥 first race since dropping out of the New York Marathon halfway through the race in November, due to illness.
鈥淩eally great atmosphere getting to race on the streets of Paris!鈥 he posted on Instagram. 鈥淭hanks to everyone that came out in the rain to cheer and to @asicsrunning for organising (sic) the event! Can鈥檛 wait to be back here this summer for the @paris2024 Olympics.鈥
Levins is scheduled to run the Istanbul Half Marathon on April 28, as he continues to train for the Paris Olympics this summer.
