Emily Dickson, originally from 亚洲天堂 Lake, took the podium on Feb. 15, 2015, at the Canada Winter Games, earning a bronze medal in a 12.5 km biathlon event.

For Dickson, her accomplishment felt like a hometown victory. The 17-year-old attends the Canadian Sport School in Prince George, where she has lived for the past three years.

鈥淭oday was a whirlwind of emotions for sure,鈥 said Dickson. 鈥淚 skied well and shot well for the first two rounds but then had a few misses in my shooting so had to ski fast to make up the time. I guess I did that well and pulled off the bronze.鈥

After completing her race, Dickson had more than an hour to wait for the final skiers to finish and the results to be posted.

鈥淚 knew I was close but there was quite a bit of suspense waiting so when I heard the news I certainly felt relieved but also so excited.鈥

The hometown advantage helped calm Dickson鈥檚 nerves and made for a memorable Canada Winter Games experience.

鈥淚t was a very cool atmosphere here today with family and friends and teammates cheering me on,鈥 she said.

亚洲天堂 Lake resident Elise Dube is also getting ready to do her best in the snowboarding competition at the Canada Winter Games. Dube will compete in parallel giant slalom on Tuesday Feb. 24, and snowboard cross on Feb. 28.

Team B.C. has a delegation of 348 athletes, coaches, managers, and mission staff representing British Columbia at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, February 13 to March 1.
