Another major provincial championship is on its way to Langley.

The B.C. AAA senior girls basketball championships are on their way to the Langley Events Centre beginning in March 2013.

鈥淭his tournament has become the highest profile high school girls sporting event in Western Canada and the move to the Langley Events Centre will only help this continue to grow into an even bigger event for the benefit of our student athletes, coaches, officials and fans,鈥� said Brett Westcott, president of the B.C. Secondary School Girls Basketball Association.

鈥淲e think this move will reinvigorate our event for years to come.鈥�

The tournament has been held at North Vancouver鈥檚 Capilano University for the past 18 years.

A five-year agreement has been reached to hold the event at the LEC, with an option to extend the agreement.

This is just the latest tournament to set up shop in Langley.

Last March saw the AAA senior boys鈥� championships begin play at the LEC as part of a five-year agreement. This March, the junior girls鈥� championships will also be contested in Langley.

鈥淲e are honoured to be selected to host this event and i think this decision speaks to the success of basketball in our community and how well this facility has been received during other provincial events held at the LEC since it opened,鈥� said LEC director of business development, Jared Harman.

鈥淲e want to host the best in sport at the LEC, and hosting the best in B.C. high school girls basketball is another example of this commitment here in Langley.鈥�
