B.C.’s first baby of 2024 born at 12 a.m.

While British Columbians were quite literally ringing in the 2024 New Year, one B.C. family was welcoming new life into the world.

B.C.’s first baby was born at 12 a.m. at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, the province announced on Monday (Jan. 1).

While not many details have been released, the province says the baby was 6 pounds 14 ounces.

On Vancouver Island, the first baby, named Ferguson ‘Gus’ Kenneth Oulette Mitchell, was born at 2:06 a.m., weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces.
