A group of Kelowna residents got together to show their national pride in a way only Canadians can.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, around a dozen residents from Holiday Park Resort went onto the frozen over Ellison Lake and etched out the snow to create a Canadian flag that's an acre in size.

The total undertaking of the flag took about three hours to complete, however, had they decided to make the flag four acres in size as they orginally planned, it would have taken a lot longer. 

The group purposely made the flag at the northeast corner of the lake so people landing or leaving the Kelowna International Airport can clearly see it from the sky.

Additionally, the project was to celebrate Flag Day, which was on Feb. 15. There was also a meet-up that day to commemorate the maple leaf. 

Since its creation, many people have taken to social media to share their love for the idea, from those who have gone to see it in person to those taking photos from their plane seats.
