Oct. 18 is Persons Day in Canada.
This marks the anniversary of the day in 1929 when women were included in the legal definition of 鈥減ersons.鈥
The case was a landmark in gender equality in Canada.
At the time, Lord Sankey, Lord Chancellor of Great Britain, announced the decision. 鈥淭he exclusion of women from all public offices is a relic of days more barbarous than ours,鈥 he said. 鈥淎nd to those who would ask why the word 鈥榩erson鈥 should include females, the obvious answer is, why should it not?鈥
Since the Persons Case in 1929, Canadian women have had significant achievements and accomplishments.
