Uber Eats drivers in four Vancouver Island cities are among the luckiest in the country, they're working in places that have the top 10 most generous tippers.
Victoria (No. 1), Campbell River (No. 4), Nanaimo (No. 6) and Courtenay (No. 7) helped Vancouver Island dominate the category in Uber Eats' 2024 Cravings Report.
The report is the food delivery company's "delicious look at Canada's top delivery trends, from crowd-pleasing classics to some seriously-surprising choices," a statement from Uber says.
Uber's list of tippers shook out with Victoria as number one.
The most generous tippers:
- Victoria, BC
- Oromocto, NB
- Red Deer, AB
- Campbell River, BC
- Fort Frances, ON
- Nanaimo, BC
- Courtenay, BC
- Edmonton, AB
- Cobourg, ON
- Calgary, AB
And while Islanders are the most generous tippers, only Nanaimo cracked the top 10 most polite cities in the country, coming in at No. 6. Kingston, ON, is the most polite.
Uber's "tastiest trends" for the year include:
In fries we trust: No meal鈥檚 complete without a sidekick! Canadians have shown their true love for the fried potato, with french fries reigning as the most popular side order, followed by naan bread and, of course, poutine.
The perfect pairing: Move over, wine and cheese鈥擟anadians have discovered new favourite pairings! The top pick this year? A pack of coolers and popcorn, the ultimate duo. Other popular pairings in the top five include beer and wings, hard lemonade and steak, coolers and hot dogs, and beer and hamburgers.
Feeling saucy: If there鈥檚 one thing Canadians aren鈥檛, it鈥檚 plain and boring. They鈥檙e all about bold flavors, with creamy garlic topping the list as the go-to condiment, followed by hot sauce for some heat and spicy mayo to round out the top three.
Roses are red and romance isn鈥檛 dead: Attention, love birds鈥攏o more excuses for forgetting anniversary flowers! With a variety of floral options on Uber Eats, you鈥檙e covered. Roses reign as the top delivery choice, proving romance is alive and well across the country.
This sh*t is bananas: B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Again! This snack is flying off the shelves, taking the crown as the most-ordered grocery item on the platform.
In high spirits: Canadians aren鈥檛 messing around when it comes to what they鈥檙e sipping on鈥攙odka and whisky are the undisputed favourites, taking the top two spots for most ordered alcohol.
Backup plan: When plan A doesn鈥檛 pan out, Canadians know they can count on a plan B. The emergency contraceptive pill made the top ten list for the most ordered non-food items this year.
A world of flavours: In a country full of different cultures, Canadians have access to an array of cuisines right at their fingertips. This year鈥檚 most ordered were Indian, Chinese, American, Japanese and Italian.
