It鈥檚 another first for the 鈥渓ittle theatre that could.鈥
Representatives of the Lakes District Film Society and the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake recently announced that the Beacon Theatre will host the Northern B.C. premier of The Art of Flight, this year鈥檚 hottest snowboarding film by Brain Farm Digital Cinema.
Better still, thanks to such sponsors as Red Bull Media House, Hudson Bay Mountain, and Rayz Board Shop, local snow boarders and film fans will get to see the movie for free on Dec. 5 and Dec. 10.
Attendees will also have a chance to win prizes donated by the film鈥檚 sponsors.
The Art of Flight follows iconic snow boarder Travis Rice and friends as they take the sport to new heights on some of the world鈥檚 toughest mountains. Two years and an estimated $2 million in the making, the documentary rewrites the formula for action sports cinema.
Dave Roberts of Snowfighters.uk.com describes The Art of Flight as, 鈥10/10. (It) sets a new benchmark. If you only see one snowboarding movie in your life, make it this one.鈥
鈥淭his is a very special film with some amazing cinematography,鈥 said Michael Riis-Christianson, president of the Lakes District Film Society.
鈥淔or this reason, it鈥檚 of interest not only to snowboard enthusiasts, but film aficionados. Because of The Art of Flight鈥檚 sponsors, everyone in the North will have a chance to see this cinematic treat at no charge.鈥
鈥淭he Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake recreation department is very excited to sponsor The Art of Flight,鈥 said village recreation coordinator Logan Wilson. 鈥淭his will be a great movie to get people excited for the upcoming winter season of fun activities.鈥
The Art of Flight will play at the 150 seat Beacon Theatre on Dec. 5 at 7:00 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 3:30 p.m.
鈥淏ecause we鈥檙e the only cinema north of Kamloops to offer this film, we鈥檙e expecting close to a sold out house,鈥 said Riis-Christianson. 鈥淩eserve seating is not available, so plan to be at the theatre early.鈥
The Lakes District Film Society reopened 亚洲天堂 Lake鈥檚 Beacon Theatre during December 2010.
Equipped with state of the art digital projection and sound, it鈥檚 Canada鈥檚 third community owned cinema.
