The Great Canadian Songbook in the LDSS MPR
The third performance in Lakes District Arts Council’s 13th performing arts season takes place on Nov. 16 in the Lakes District Secondary School. The Great Canadian Songbook, featuring tenor Ken Lavigne, Yukon singer Diyet and Tiller’s Folly. This show highlights great Canadian songs by Ian Tyson, Leonard Cohen, Stan Rogers, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Buffy St. Marie, Anne Murray, Stompin’ Tom Connors, the Barenaked Ladies and Blue Rodeo … and many more. Canadian songs of the past and present take you on a musical journey from Bonavista to Vancouver Island to the Arctic Ocean. The show was developed to mark the 150th anniversary of Canada’s confederation … and this season is the last time the show will tour. So … don’t miss this chance to see it. Tenor Ken Lavigne returns to ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake, accompanied by Celtic-influenced band Tiller’s Folly and sub-Arctic-Southern Tutchone-Japanese-Tlingit-Scottish-Yukoner Diyet. Together, these great and varied artists perform the music of the Great Canadian Songbook. You’ll know all the songs, and most of the words, and you’ll want to sing along … and you can expect to get the chance!
