The indie-folk duo, Anna & Regan Luth, is gearing up to bring their unique blend of electric violin and harmonious vocals to Kitimat as part of their much-anticipated tour across Northern B.C. from April 1-13.
Initially part of the BC-based indie-folk quartet, The Crescent Sky, Anna and Regan have carved a niche for themselves in the folk music industry over the past decade, by captivating audiences at several notable festivals across the province, including the Mission Folk Festival, Ymir鈥檚 Tiny Lights Festival, and Peace Valley Folk Fest in Hudson鈥檚 Hope. Their accolades include placing in the top 100 of CBC鈥檚 Canada-Wide Searchlight and receiving the Fraser Valley Emerging Artist award.
The duo鈥檚 music delves into themes of love, loss and the beauty of everyday life.
鈥淥ur vibe and style aims to be very approachable,鈥� Regan said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 very vocal and harmony driven, with lots of instrumentation to keep people interested. I experiment with a lot of different violin sounds and tones, and Anna has quite intricate and beautiful finger picking styles.鈥�
Drawing from a wide array of influences, including Joni Mitchell, Fleet Foxes, Phoebe Bridgers, and Feist, Anna & Regan Luth鈥檚 music combines the earnest twang of Americana with thoughtful, melancholic lyrics. This balance offers listeners a raw yet hopeful perspective on personal and universal themes.
In keeping with the style of their music, the couple has chosen an array of unconventional, yet intimate venues for their tour, including churches, an art gallery, and even household living rooms. 鈥淲e feel these spaces lend themselves really well to what we鈥檙e doing musically,鈥� Regan explained. 鈥淲e write all of our music in the living room, so we want that to translate over to the concert goers. These intimate spaces allow for another level of connection.鈥�
Anna and Regan performed a one-off show in Kitimat last fall. Although the town is not on their schedule for this tour, they look forward to connecting with other Northwest communities. The concerts promises a blend of familiar tunes and new singles from their upcoming project, Alma Narrows, offering audiences a fresh glimpse into their musical evolution. 鈥淚t will be a good opportunity to share what we鈥檙e writing and the new direction we鈥檙e heading in,鈥� Regan said, highlighting the duo鈥檚 excitement for their upcoming performances, promising engaging storytelling and captivating melodies.
