Of the $100,000 that Rio Tinto pledged to the local community last August for wildfire recovery, 25 per cent of it is set aside and doesn鈥檛 directly go to those affected by the 2018 wildfires.

The non-profit 亚洲天堂 Lake and District Community Foundation received the $100,000 and then disbursed support funds to groups seeking help after the wildfires, Bernice Magee, president of the foundation told Lakes District 亚洲天堂 on Nov. 7.
Community organizations apply to the foundation for funds and it goes through an application process.
Some of groups included the Ootsa Lake Bible Camp, Lakes District Family Enhancement Society, Southside Health and Wellness and the Lakes Animal Friendship Society.
Seventy-thousand dollars is reserved for 鈥渢hose negatively affected by the wildfires of 2018鈥, of which $37,870 has already been given to applicants, Magee said.
However, $25,000 鈥済oes into the perpetual fund, which are funds deposited in perpetuity. Interest earned on the fund is spent on the community on an annual basis.鈥
The previous deadline for applications was on Oct. 30 and at least one more meeting will be held this year to give out the remaining funds. $5,000 went to advertisingto promote the relief fund and how to apply.
鈥淎ll of the $70,000 from Rio Tinto Alcan will be disbursed鈥 by January, Magee said.
