It’s getting cold outside, and ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake residents should prepare for winter 2024.

It’s a good idea to keep the following items in your car at all times:

- Flashlights and batteries are essential. You never know when you might need a flashlight to help you navigate in the dark.

- Warm clothes and blankets are a must. If your vehicle breaks down, it will keep you warm.

- Check your car batteries regularly. Winter can be harsh, and the freezing temperature can freeze your car batteries. Installing a block heater in your car can help keep your engine warm.

- Having jumper cables is also advisable.

- Before starting your car, check your hood for any stray or feral animals. They may have sneaked into your car engine in search of warmth. Tap on the hood and check for any movements or sounds of animals.

- Winter tires are essential. Consult with your local vendors before buying them.

- Keep an eye on your tire pressure monitors. Due to cold, air pressure in tires drops significantly faster.

- Check your brake shoes. During winter, the roads are icy and slippery. Its always better to have a new pair brakes for your vehicle.

- Make sure your vehicle’s tank is full. Having enough fuel can be helpful in emergencies. One reason to keep the fuel tank full is to lessen the chance of condensation in your fuel tank causing water in your gas lines.

- Keep an eye on your windshield washer fluid, keep it full at all times so you can keep your windshield clean.

- Always check the weather forecast before heading out. Be mindful of your speed when driving on highways, as the roads may have black ice. The posted speed on the highways is recommended when weather conditions are perfect. It is advised to reduce speed when conditions are not favourable.

- You should have a candle in your vehicle. If your vehicle breaks down, lighting a candle will give you warmth.
