The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake received a vital lifeline after a holiday auction raised $47,000 to address its financial difficulties. The online auction, which ran Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, garnered strong support from local businesses and residents.

"The Legion here in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake was in dire straits," trustee Jeanne Parkinson said. "Some of our community members—not even necessarily Legion members—decided we were going to hold an online Facebook auction." She described the event as a "roaring success" and expressed optimism for the branch's future. While the funds raised won’t entirely erase the Legion's debt, the remainder is now considered manageable.

The auction featured over 500 items donated by both businesses and individuals. Among the standout contributions were heated vests from ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Auto and a load of logs that fetched $1,200. Parkinson was moved by the community's outpouring of support. "I'm overwhelmed. We just really did not expect this kind of response," she said. "It’s incredible."

The Legion's financial troubles stemmed from past mismanagement, with debts accumulating under a leadership lacking business expertise, Parkinson said. However, she added, the auction proceeds will allow the Legion to regain stability.
