In a step toward addressing the significant senior and Elder housing deficit in the community, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake is looking at a partnership with Lakes District Senior Citizen Housing Association (LDSCHA). 

In a Dec. 15, 2023 letter, 亚洲天堂 Lake Mayor Henry Wiebe, informed LDSCHA president Naida Hazelton about gifting a parcel of land to the LDSCHA for the development of a new senior housing facility.

The size of the land will be negotiated based on the capacity and design requirements of the proposed facility. The parcel will be located in Phase 1a of Village Heights, an 86-acre area owned by the Village. The development is expected to be ready for construction in 2025.

The Village Heights Master Plan, completed in 2022, aims to create a complete community that addresses housing challenges while promoting accessibility, active living, and affordability.

In the letter, Wiebe said the local government recognizes the significant senior and Elder housing deficit in the community. 

"Many seniors and Elders are having to live in accommodations poorly suited to their needs or are required to move to other communities," Wiebe wrote.

This partnership with the LDSCHA is part of the Village's broader effort to improve housing options for seniors and Elders in the region, Wiebe said.
