Faculty association members working to rule instead of picketing

National day for Truth and Reconciliation was honoured by residents in 亚洲天堂 Lake at Spirit Square on Sept. 30 from 2 to 9 p.m. 亚洲天堂 Lake Native Development Corporation (BLNDC) and the local six First Nations invited the community to the event to bring awareness about the day. The event started with an opening prayer.

Students of Decker Lake Elementary School (DLES) wore orange shirts to honour Truth and Reconciliation Day on Sept. 29. 鈥淲e are very delighted to unveil our Territorial Land Acknowledgement so that students and community members can scan and access this every time they enter our bulding,鈥� said Sigrid Sollbach Principal of DLES. Maureen Luggi Chief of Wet鈥檚uwet鈥檈n First Nation and her daughter Danielle Wall were at the school to speak with the children and share the Indigenous history.

On Sept. 18, 亚洲天堂 Lake RCMP received a report from an individual who stated that a person known to them had sent threatening texts messages along with photos of firearms.

William Konkin Elementary School (WKE) held an assembly on Sept. 28 in recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day. The students gathered in the auditorium and sang the national anthem of Canada and watched a video to learn more about Truth and Reconciliation day and why the whole week was honoured for Orange Shirt Day. 鈥淲e are having a school-based assembly for Truth & Reconciliation,鈥� said Principal of WKE Karie Evans.
