Special Olympics Snowshoe Competition in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake

A Special Olympics Snowshoe Competition was held in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake at the Omineca Ski Club on Feb. 1. The event took place from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. with many events from a 50m race to a 1600 m race. Each of the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake athletes earned two personal best times. Smithers, Prince George, and Williams Lake all travelled to ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake to participate. World Snow day in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake

World Snow Day was Jan.19 and the Omineca Ski Club was out celebrating in full force. The club had grand opening and a ribbon cutting of their new skill park. The skills park was started by volunteers a few years ago and this past fall they were able to enhance some of the features with support from Kal-tire grants. The grants were specifically for developing skills parks for cross country skiing in B.C. The club received $2300 through the program.

ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake resident, Madison Macdonald has qualified for the 2020 BC Winter Games taking place Feb. 20-24 in Fort St. John. Madison has been cross country skiing with the local Spirit North program and raced her qualifier in Smithers on Dec. 18. The Spirit North Program aims to empower youth to learn, grow, thrive and strengthen themselves and their communities through sport. “We are all just so incredibly proud of Maddy and what she’s accomplished by qualifying for the B.C. Winter Games.
