Morris Williams Elementary students and three members of the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake RCMP gathered at Spirit Square last Friday for the school’s Terry Fox run. The run/walk lasted 22 and a half minutes, representing each year of Terry Fox’s life.

The Tweedsmuir Recreation Commission hosted another successful Ootsa Lake Fishing Derby earlier this month. Here are the winners: 1st Pauline Redwood - 10.910 lbs; 2nd Jenny McKee - 10.120 lbs; 3rd Christian Lobermayer - 10.080 lbs; 4th Sean Baumann - 9.840 lbs. Other winners included Rob Law, who won a trip to Pondosy; Don Zimmer, who won a kayak; Patrick Pelletier, who won a pressure washer; and Willow Fehr, who won a 40-inch TV.

Local athlete Nicole Gerow (middle of front row) was the head coach of B.C.’s rifle shooting team at the 2017 North American Indigenous Games, which were held in Toronto last month. With the assistance of assistant coach Rick Joe, Gerow coached the athletes via weekly conference calls, emails, photos and videos. The team came home with three gold, eight silver and three bronze medals.

Approximately 30 children had a chance to learn and practice soccer skills with professional coaches that brought their international experience to ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake last week. Head coaches Brett Hyslop and Steph Steiner had the assistance of a guest coach from Mexico this year - Andres Sanchez. The World Cup Soccer Camp wrapped up with a tournament last Saturday.

The ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Mountain Biking Association hosted its tenth annual Big Pig Mountain Biking Festival Aug. 11 to 13. Despite Boer Mountain being almost completely socked in with smoke for most of the week, the event had a good turnout. By Saturday afternoon, the much-needed rain put a slight damper on the evening entertainment, but mountain bikers are tough.

ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake hosts B.C Bike Ride event

Approximately 70 bikers from all over the world made a stop in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake last week as part of the B.C. Bike Ride North, an event that connects mountain bikers on a tour of six northern B.C. communities. Bikers used the Kager Lake campground as their base. According to the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Mountain Biking Association, this was a great opportunity to showcase the local area and trails.
