An estimated 7.3 million Canadians voted in the advance federal election polls over Easter weekend, Elections Canada said .
that it was a "record number of Canadians" that voted during advance polls. The number represents a 25 per cent increase from the 5.8 million who voted in advance in the 2021 general election. It noted that the 7.3 million is just an estimate, as some polls "may not have reported yet."
Advance voting took place from April 18 to 21. Posts on social media indicated long wait times to vote at polling stations across the country.
A report detailing the estimated number of voters who participated in advance polls across all electoral districts is currently being compiled and will be available soon on , Elections Canada said.
Canadians head to the polls on Monday, April 28 to choose a new federal government.
Residents can also vote by mail using the special ballot process. The deadline to apply to vote by special ballot is Tuesday, April 22, and the marked ballot must be returned by election day – Monday, April 28.
