Students and staff at William Konkin Elementary and Lakes District Secondary School donned suitable colours on Feb. 27 for Pink Shirt Day or Anti-Bullying Day. And a hot dog barbecue was also held at Lakeview Mall for Pink Shirt Day. Donations from the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, the barbecue and from Babine Forest Products raised $1,008.93 for the Elizabeth Fry Society. The occasion began in 2007 after a high school student in Nova Scotia was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. In a move of sympathy, dozens of other students wore pink shirts. The trend has since inspired Canada and other countries to establish national anti-bullying days. (Blair McBride photos)
