Vernon鈥檚 Sonja Gaudet has been inducted into the World Curling Hall of Fame.
Gaudet entered the Hall of Fame over the Easter weekend in the athlete category, alongside fellow Canadian Les Harrison, who was inducted in the builder category.
Gaudet is one of the world鈥檚 most decorated wheelchair curlers. She has won three Paralympic Winter Games gold medals as Canada鈥檚 lead in 2006, 2010 and 2014, and also won world championships in 2009, 2011 and 2013. Overall, she competed in eight world championships.
Gaudet is Canada鈥檚 first wheelchair curler to be inducted into the World Curling Hall of Fame. She also became the first in her sport to enter Canada鈥檚 Sports Hall of Fame back in 2021.
She was injured as an adult when she fell off a horse and was later introduced to wheelchair curling by chance.
Gaudet currently works as a Regional Access and Inclusion liaison with the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and Spinal Cord Injury B.C.
On her LinkedIn page, Gaudet says she is 鈥減assionate for creating environments and adventures that include everyone.鈥
