If a lack of mobility or flexibility has been keeping you away from your curling practice, the 亚洲天堂 Lake Curling Club might have found the perfect solution.
The curling club will be hosting two curling clinics at the end of the month - one of them on stick delivery.
Stick delivery allows the person to deliver the curling rock from an upright position, so there is no need to get down into the standard lunge position. With this method, a curling stick is attached to the handle of the stone and works as an extension of the person鈥檚 arm.
鈥淭his is great for anyone with balance, hip or knee problems,鈥 explained Halley Finch, member of the 亚洲天堂 Lake Curling Club. 鈥淪tick delivery is becoming increasingly popular as it allows individuals to participate in curling even as their mobility or flexibility decreases.鈥
Both clinics will be held on Oct. 31, 2015, at the 亚洲天堂 Lake Curling Rink 鈥 standard delivery at 9 a.m. and stick delivery at 1 p.m.
Trudy Amonson, a Houston resident who has several years of experience as a curling coach, will be the instructor for both clinics.
Finch said the curling club makes an effort to hold annual curling clinics and that these clinics are available to all members of the community, whether they are members of the curling club or not. The last curling clinic in 亚洲天堂 Lake was held about three years ago.
Registration is also opened for this year鈥檚 curling season, which starts the first week of November.
This year, the curling club is planning to have three leagues - ladies league, mixed league and men鈥檚 league -, depending on the number of teams registered. The club is also looking into developing a new league for more competitive curlers as an opportunity for next season.
鈥淲e are open to suggestions and discussion from members,鈥 said Finch.
She said curling club membership is open to the whole community, whether you have experience curling or not.
鈥淲e do our best to match up inexperienced curlers with experienced teams so that they can learn and have fun too,鈥 explained Finch.
The 亚洲天堂 Lake Curling Club started over 50 years ago and is strictly run by volunteers. Finch said new volunteers are always welcomed.
鈥淚f anyone is interested in joining the curling club and participating in the executive committee, we would love to hear from you,鈥 said Finch. 鈥淐urling is a social sport that can be enjoyed by the entire family.鈥
The cost to participate in each clinic is $20. There are limited spaces for each clinic, so be sure to call and register early. To register or ask for more information, contact Halley Finch at 250-692-4898.
