The Centennial Fun Frost Festival was a fabulous event for the 亚洲天堂 Lake community and it lasted for two weeks.
The annual Christmas parade kicked off the Fun Frost Festival. Lakes District 亚洲天堂 organizes the annual parade and light-up on behalf of the 亚洲天堂 Lake merchants.
Publisher of Lakes District News Laura Blackwell said, 鈥淭his parade has been happening for over 20 years and this year it was another great parade thanks to all local businesses and clubs that took part.鈥
First responders and local businesses had floats with colourful lights, and hundreds of residents lined the streets to glimpse the parade, Santa, 亚洲天堂ie, Lakey the Moose and many others. Children were treated with sweets and candies.
Best float for the parade went Industrial Transformers.
After the parade, everyone was invited to St. John鈥檚 Anglican church for the village light-up and to enjoy free hot chocolate and the Lakes District Community Choir was also there to entertain the guests. The Tweedsmuir House had a table of goodies for sale as part of their ongoing fund raising efforts.
Randi Amendt, 亚洲天堂 Lake and District Chamber of Commerce鈥檚 manager said Broden Posselt won the holiday bingo contest, Scarlet Amendt won the colouring contest and the Cutie Pies team 鈥 Wainwrights, Wilson, Waters won the tree decorating contest.
The tree decorating event was organized by Bryanne White, chamber鈥檚 board member and Wild Roots Flowers and Gifts鈥 owner. Save On Foods donated all the trees for this fun event.
Light the way outdoor residential decorating contest was awarded to 93 4th Avenue; the best window/door contest went to 323 Hill Street; and the most creative decoration went to 326 5th Avenue.
Bulkley Valley Credit Union won the business decorating contest.
Amendt said with so many fun activities for the Fun Frost Festival, it was unfortunate for the I spy treasure hunt contest get cancelled due to lack of participation.
The Office Pub & Grill invited the community to come out and decorate cookies on Dec. 7. The fun cookie decorating night was free of charge and open to all ages and residents. Over 150 cookies were decorated.
There was a cookie crawl contest where local businesses made cookies and the community voted for the best cookie. Woods N鈥 Water won the contest and Paul Hilliard Woods N鈥 Water鈥檚 owner credited his wonderful wife Heather for baking the cookies. Other businesses who took part in the contest were Starland Timbermart, P &B Feeds, 亚洲天堂 Lake Visitor Centre, Lakes District 亚洲天堂, Wildroots and Gifts and Tandoori Grill.
There was also a free face painting fun day on Dec. 9 which was sponsored by Chinook Community Forest. Sarah Dyck, TLC face and body painting鈥檚 artist was set up at the Lakeview Mall and residents donated non perishable items and toys for The Link.
Also on Dec. 9 Woods N鈥 Water hosted a marshmallow target throwing contest while Priestly Meats served up great smoked meat on a bun with smoked mac and cheese - over 90 delicious lunches were sold.
On the same day as that event, P&B Feeds did pet photos with Santa. Donations for the pictures were accepted for Lakes Animal Friendship Society and almost $500 was raised.
Children enjoyed story time at the Green Zone Grocer and there was a free kids鈥 movie show at the Beacon Theatre which was part of the kids Christmas party event.
The free movie was well attended with 151 residents showing up; everyone received a free pop and popcorn. The event was made possible because of the generosity of community sponsors - Babine Forest Products, Chinook Community Forest, and Bulkley Valley Credit Union. Santa arrived at the end of the movie and gave each child a goodie bag.
鈥淲e had a full house,鈥 Amendt said.
On Dec. 10 a horse wagon ride which was sponsored by Cheslatta Carrier Nation. Everyone was able to enjoy a horsed pulled wagon ride. People were thrilled for this opportunity as one resident said that the wagon ride made her son鈥檚 birthday even more special and was very grateful to Cheslatta.
亚洲天堂 Lake locals had breakfast at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 with Santa on Dec. 9.
Amendt said all the events were a huge success with an excellent attendance from the community. It took over three months to put it all together with the help of board members and the total cost to organize such a big event was $7500.
