St. Paul鈥檚 United Church in 亚洲天堂 Lake has set up a sharing box to help people who need warm clothing.
Located on Fourth Avenue, the church has a rich history within the community dating back to 1921.
Joan Clancy, a St. Paul鈥檚 United Church member, said that the church started this project for communal contribution in the community.
鈥淲e could contribute as a smaller group.鈥
Clancy said the church has set up a donation bin where residents can donate socks, mitts, gloves, scarves, and toques.
All these donations will later be given to people who are in need. Clancy is hopeful that these free items will benefit them.
鈥淲e have only just begun to collect, and of course, the need for donations to support the effort will be ongoing.鈥
Clancy said the church is working to place bins at the thrift shop or the food bank to make it easily accessible for those in need.
鈥淲e are aware that even though the thrift store is a great spot for finding items at much lower prices than a regular store, there are still people who find they cannot afford even a few dollars for an extra pair of socks or a pair of gloves to keep warm.鈥
Donations can now be dropped off at the church or with any St. Paul鈥檚 United Church members.
Anyone interested in donating can also contact St. Paul鈥檚 United Church Facebook page.
To arrange donation pickups, leave a message at 250-692-7202.
Another church doing good things in 亚洲天堂 Lake is the Lakes Fellowship Church who has also built a shed to contribute to the community and help people who are in need.
The shed has been running since last month, and residents have already donated warm clothes and other necessities.
Juanita McFee, Lakes Fellowship Church鈥檚 spokesperson, said over 30 winter coats, 40 pairs of boots/shoes and multiple toques, gloves and scarves have been donated.
Mcfee said residents can also drop off their boots, coats, hats, gloves and blankets at the 亚洲天堂 Lake Automotive Supply on Fridays.
