On. Dec. 14, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake updated 亚洲天堂 Lake residents on the Tom Forsyth Memorial Arena鈥檚 chiller.
The production of the new chiller unit has been delayed, and the ice will be ready for public use in February 2024.
Sheryl Worthing, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake鈥檚 chief administrative officer, said, 鈥淭he manufacturer informed us that production has been delayed at their facility due to a change in their systems earlier this fall. This change affected all their production schedules (not just 亚洲天堂 Lake).鈥
鈥淭hey have communicated that they are making 亚洲天堂 Lake鈥檚 chiller unit a priority and will ship it on a designated truck once it has passed quality control checks,鈥 Worthing said.
Worthing said, the expected shipping deadline is set for Dec. 29 and with no further delays, ice will be ready for public use as early as February.
Sean Stadey, 亚洲天堂 Lake Curling Club鈥檚 president, said the delay in the arena chiller will mean a short curling season.
鈥淲e are still hoping to get on to the ice, even if it鈥檚 for a very short six to eight weeks of league curling.鈥
Stadey said that with enough community interests and support from the Lakeside Multiplex, bonspiel and drop-in curling nights could be managed.
Stadey hopes to involve new people in curling when the ice returns.
鈥淲e look forward to curling even if it will be a short season.鈥
Kevin White, 亚洲天堂 Lake Curling Club鈥檚 member, said the delayed chiller replacement is just another setback for the club.
鈥淥ur anticipated start date of mid-January will now run into mid-February.鈥
White said that the arena staff had assured the club to extend the season, which will help to organize six ladies鈥 weeks and eight weeks for mixed open events.
White stressed the loss of advertising revenue throughout the year. Fortunately, the expenses were not high since they had no ice rentals.
鈥淚f we are not curling, we are not paying ice rental.鈥
White has concerns as the community misses social connections and cannot enjoy usual winter activities.
Currently, the Village of 亚洲天堂 Lake is collaborating with suppliers and installers to ensure a return to regular arena and curling rink seasons as soon as possible.
