The Thrift Shop in 亚洲天堂 Lake had a three-in-one celebration on May 10. The date marked Healthcare Auxiliary Day, honouring the role that thrift shops have played in supporting health care auxiliaries, which pass on proceeds to health care programs and hospitals. This week marks National Nursing Week to coincide with the birth of Florence Nightingale, hailed as the founder of modern nursing, who was born almost 200 years ago, on May 12.

Alternative Arts Festival at LDSS

亚洲天堂 Lake residents joined a FireSmart event on May 11 for 亚洲天堂 Lake Wildfire Preparedness Day and helped remove potentially combustible debris from a grassy hill along Carroll St. The twigs, dead branches and logs can pose wildfire risks. The FireSmart program is mainly aimed at homes but the group used the hill as a demonstration of how to make areas close to fences and homes safer. Jesse Bird, chair of the 亚洲天堂 Lake FireSmart committee and wife Katy Burkholder joined the safety effort.

In June, 亚洲天堂 Lake resident Elisia Blower will make one of the biggest moves of her life.

Dozens of dog owners and their furry pets joined the annual Lakes District Kennel Club鈥檚 dog show on May 4-5 in the Tom Forsyth Memorial Arena in 亚洲天堂 Lake. Owners came from across British Columbia and Alberta. Participating dogs were judged on conformation and obedience. (Blair McBride photos)
