Library gets new art

Lakes District Secondary School art students stand with their salmon-themed masterpiece, in the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Public Library, on June 11. Students from the block 1 – Art 11/12 class made the portrait using glass and stones. The work is the result of the creativity and efforts of teacher Steve Wilejto and students Kiara Alec, Nathan Clayton, Clay Murray, Jeffrey Robinson, Rivey Sackney, Logan Thompson, Micah Watson, Jasmin Stiffler, Brock West, Shelby Woskett and Sam Shelford.

RedRover talks animal care

RedRover talks animal care

Nicole Forsyth, Executive Director of RedRover, spoke in the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Public Library on May 28 about the animal rescue organization’s programs aimed at helping animals and families. Volunteers with the Sacramento-based organization help provide care for animals - including veterinary care - and support for families. It also deploys personnel to help animals in disaster situations, such as the wildfires in California last year.

Caring for ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake animals

Dozens of dogs and cats were brought in to the community animal care event, held on the lower level of the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Public Library on June 3-6 for health related checks and procedures. Animals received spaying, neutering, vaccinations, deworming, grooming and nail trimming. Dr. Kim Hunter from Smithers said she has spayed and neutered about 16 animals per day. Hunter has veterinary offices in Houston and Smithers, and also works out of her mobile unit.

Community members came out on June 2 to support the Granisle Emergency Services Day held at Copperview Park. Seven agencies participated, including RCMP detachments from Houston, ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake and Smithers; BC Ambulance Granisle Station; Granisle Volunteer Fire Department; Granisle Community Paramedic; Granisle Emergency Support Services; Regional District Protective Services; and BC Wildfire Services.

Annual Wildfire Service barbecue

Members of the BC Wildfire Service enjoy a barbecue lunch at the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake centre on May 27. The lunch was held for the service’s annual health and wellness event and to show appreciation for the staff. Senior officials of the service attended and reviewed standards of performance and met new staff. Several staff were absent from the event because a 20-person unit crew was sent to a fire near the Beaver River, northwest of Fort Nelson.
