Repairing the Beacon

Workers conduct repairs on the back wall of the Beacon Theatre, on April 9 in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake. The decades-old building needs $424,000 in repairs for two walls and a new roof. The Lakes District Film Appreciation Society is starting a fundraising campaign to help pay for the repairs, on top of the $74,000 it has already earmarked for the work. Arts Council nominated for presenter award

ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake residents John and Sandra Barth gave a presentation on the Lakes District Arts Council (LDAC) to the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake village council on April 9. The LDAC organizers were among six nominees for the Presenter of the Year Award by the British Columbia Touring Council (BCTC) at the Pacific Contact conference on April 6.

Cheslatta Carrier Nation hosts winter carnival

Cheslatta Carrier Nation hosted a fun winter carnival day on March 22 for the whole Southside community. Young and old took their turns ice fishing. There was also snow painting, a wiener roast and many other fun activities. Chief Corrina Leween said, “It’s becoming a bigger event every year and everyone would like to see it continue as it is a nice gathering for everyone. Grassy Plains School, Mellissa Gagnon and Cheslatta staff all work really hard to help make this a great event.
