The 亚洲天堂 Lake & District Chamber of Commerce held their annual Business Excellence Awards on Oct. 21 at the Tweedsmuir Rod & Gun Club. The night was a fun filled night with Black Jack and Roulette tables for entertainment. Appy hour started at 6 p.m. with awards commencing after 7 p.m. A delicious dinner was served by the Office Pub & Grill and the rest of the night the crowd was entertained by a band from Vanderhoof call Cosmic Hazard.

Drum Run Adventure Tour came to 亚洲天堂 Lake on Oct. 17 at Lakes District Secondary School. Lyle Povah percussionist and runner was joined by eight local residents for a drum session. Povah inspired them with a historical and cultural aspect of drums and how drums are important to First Nations. He has been working with the B.C. Children鈥檚 Hospital with a mission to raise funds for kids to have the best experience when they are hospitalized.

S100 training program is available in winter

For a whole week, the access to Highway 35 intersection off of Highway 16 was closed. The required water-main-tie was built for the new fire hall and it is now completed. B.C. United Leader Kevin Falcon and Mayor of Houston Shane Brienen are touring together and stopped at 亚洲天堂 Lake on Oct. 19. Brienen is B.C. United鈥檚 candidate for the Nechako Lakes provincial election. They had a closed door meeting at the Omineca Ski Club. Falcon said that this is not a campaign tour and they were yet a year ahead till election time. They visited 亚洲天堂 Lake as part of their smaller community visitations to talk and listen to folks.

St. Luke鈥檚 art show was held on Oct. 14 at St. Luke鈥檚 Church beside the shore of Francois Lake. This church is well over 100 years old and was built by local community members. 鈥淭his art show was just part of that group for the service of St. Luke鈥檚 church and the St. Luke鈥檚 Heritage Society (non-profit organization),鈥� said Donna Fowler. She also said the church had been completely restored by their non-profit society. There was coffee and deserts for the guests who came to this art show.

亚洲天堂 Lake and District Seniors Society played carpet bowling at the Decker Lake Hall on Oct. 18. Every Wednesday, the seniors society organizes carpet bowling right after lunch. Seniors are more than welcome to drop in and bowl.
