‘We scare hunger’ campaign a success in ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake

A group of Lakes District Secondary School students spent an evening going door to door to collect food items for the Lakes District Food Bank as part of their annual campaign called ’We scare hunger’ on Oct. 30, 2017. The students collected over 466 kg of food items and then dropped them off at the food bank.

The First ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Scouts have been raising money by splitting and stacking firewood. Kris Shively with the First ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake Scouts said the scouts are not only helping out the community while raising money, but also learning about the value of hard work.

Community members stopped by the Bulkley Valley Credit Union’s Lakes District branch on Oct. 26, 2017 to say good-bye to branch manager Sandy Doré, who’s retiring after eight years. Doré has been a huge part of the ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake community. (L-R) Nancy Meyer, from BVCU, Smithers branch presented Sandy with a going away present. Sandy has been themanager of BVCU for the last 8 years and the has been a big contributing factor to the community and will be missed.

Lakes District Food Bank holds grand opening

The Lakes District Food Bank held a ribbon-cutting event for its new location - 788 Centre Street - last week. The event was followed by the food bank’s regular distribution, which that day included barbecue and cake to celebrate the occasion. The building was recently donated to the food bank by the Village of ÑÇÖÞÌìÌà Lake.

Four Lakes District Secondary School students have recently attended School District 91’s annual project agriculture in Vanderhoof and area. Students visited the Nechako Valley Animal Health Services and Little Valley Farms to experience cattle handling, roping, horse penning, branding and ID tagging before taking part in a mock auction at the Vanderhoof Auction Mart.
